Making the Case for a Career in the Legal Sector

Students at the college were given an insight into Careers in the Legal Sector, with a visit from Tracey Wright, Solicitor and Partner in Wills, Trusts and Probate with Woollcombe Yonge.

After delivering an assembly to our Year 8 students, Tracey met up with a group of Year 10 and Year 12 students, and talked about her experiences and career pathway into the Legal sector.

Tracey talked about the skills and qualities required to be a Solicitor, and the importance of students getting ‘hands on’ experiences of law through work experience in Year 12, job shadowing and placements at University

Tracey also talked about new Apprenticeship pathways to becoming a Solicitor

At Woollcoombe Yonge, they have recently had their first apprentice qualify as a Solicitor and win the Young Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Award, which is an incredibly inspiring achievement.

Tracey’s key words of advice to our students were:

“Be resilient”

and

“Don’t give up at the first hurdle”

Our thanks to Tracey for presenting some informative talks to our students and we look forward to seeing representatives from Woollcome Young at the College Careers Fair in March 2025!
