A Record Breaking Trip! Ivybridge Community College students become the very first to have an exclusive tour around the McMurtry Automotive factory! Take a look at this incredible vehicle which holds a massive list of records, including being the fastest car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill climb and the fastest car around the Top Gear track, where it even beat Formula 1 cars! In fact, it is the only car in the world that produces enough downforce at 0mph to hold itself completely upside down. We received such a warm welcome, and our students learned so much about different types of engineering and manufacturing processes. The highlight of the day was getting to sit inside the actual record-breaking car! A huge thank you to GMD Eurotool, Quantum cars and BuildX SW, for helping create this opportunity for our students, and to McMurtry Automotive for being such fantastic hosts. #McMurtryAutomotive #Engineering #STEM #FutureEngineers #SchoolTrip #GoodwoodFestivalOfSpeed #TopGear #AutomotiveEngineering #Innovation #GMDEurotool
Our 2025 – 2026 Aspiring Scholars Programme concluded with a final celebration, bringing together students from all year groups who took part throughout the academic year. The Aspiring Scholars Programme is designed to inspire and support students in pursuing ambitious academic pathways beyond college, whilst providing exceptional opportunities to develop their confidence, character and wider skills. During the final session, students reflected on their achievements and personal growth. Successes included becoming more confident in lessons, independently arranging work experience placements and visiting Parliament to gain first-hand insight. Deputy Principal Nichola Offer, who has worked with the group throughout the year, said "It has been a privilege to lead the Aspiring Scholars Programme this year and to see our students grow in confidence, ambition, and self-belief. One of our key aims has been to break down barriers by showing students that Oxbridge, leading universities and other ambitious pathways are genuinely within their reach. We are also fortunate to have alumni who have gone on to achieve similar things, which is a reminder that these opportunities are not reserved for the privileged, but are open to young people from all backgrounds. Their enthusiasm, determination, and willingness to embrace new challenges have been inspiring and I am incredibly proud of all they have achieved. I hope they leave the programme knowing that with hard work and belief in themselves, there are no limits to what they can accomplish. If anyone wants to get involved next year, please look out for the notices in the bulletin next year. It would be great to see others get involved and it's never too early to explore aspirations." Well done to you all!
Ivybridge Community College Welcomes Year 6 Students! Earlier this month we welcomed our new students to the College. They started the day with an Assembly led by Mrs Hutchinson, College Principal, Mrs Johnson, Director of Transition and Mrs Tyson, Year 7 College Director. We used the term 'Nervous-cited' and spoke about how nerves were a perfectly normal response to such a big transition! Throughout the day students were introduced to a mathematical game called 'Fitting Numbers. Students then spent time in their Tutor Groups discussing the classroom expectations and routines and writing their own My Sentence with the help of their Tutor and student mentors. Please do ask your child to share their My Sentence with you (be prepared they may make you feel quite emotional!) Mentors led small tours of the College before breaktime when students were able to see what the Canteen offers and what they will be able to buy, using facial recognition, from September! An exciting lesson was led by the fantastic Science Department where students made bookmarks and explored acids and alkalis through a practical. Students also received their gift from the College, a book by local author, Tanya Landman, called Tomorrow's Ghost and at the end of the day they were lucky enough to meet Tanya, who had the crowd giggling with her tales about her childhood quest for a pig. We were thrilled to see so many students stay behind to have their copy signed! We cannot wait to see all of our new Year 7 students back in September proudly wearing the College uniform. Have a wonderful summer Year 6!
An incredible day at the Goodwood Festival of Speed! We had the privilege of taking 31 brilliant Girls in STEM to experience the thrill and innovation of motorsport first-hand. From exploring cutting-edge engineering to seeing exactly how the motorsport world operates behind the scenes, the students soaked it all in. A massive highlight was the STEM talks. Our girls thoroughly impressed the McLaren team with their insightful and challenging questions during a special careers session! To top it all off, some of the students even got to meet F1 championship contender Kimi Antonelli... and they absolutely loved it! We are proud of these future engineers and innovators. The future of motorsport and STEM is in great hands! Thank you to Goodwood Festival of Speed for making provisions to support our students to attend! #GirlsInSTEM #GoodwoodFOS #WomenInEngineering #STEMEducation #McLaren #Motorsport #FutureEngineers #KimiAntonellisee less

A massive well done to the girls' team who competed in the F-24 Greenpower Race at Predannack Airfield . It was a day of real highs and challenging lows. In terms of the racing, we experienced several mechanical and electrical issues, however the girls worked valiantly and absolutely refused to give up, even when things were going wrong out on the track. When the car was running smoothly, the team was absolutely flying, holding first place for the majority of the race! Unfortunately, a broken chain and some late electrical issues ultimately knocked us out of the final running. Despite the heartbreak with the racing, the team's incredible preparation and hard work shone through. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we walked away with the Best Portfolio Award, beating nine other teams! We are so incredibly proud of their resilience, teamwork and brilliant engineering spirit. They showed exactly what it means to be a team. Thank you to Rob and Pete from Quantum cars, Jon from GMD Eurotool Ltd. and Sam from BuildX SW for all your support. Onwards and upwards for the next race! #Greenpower #F24 #WomenInSTEM #Engineeringivybridge #Resilienceivybridge #Teamworkivybridge #GreenpowerTrust #StudentSuccessivybridge
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh 2026! Our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh students have had an incredible few months! After working on the various elements of their Bronze Award, volunteering in the community, and their physical and skills sections, it was time to take on the expedition! A training day at the College covered route planning and navigation, mastering the art of the compass. Students spent the day levelling up their campcraft and safety skills which covered everything they needed. The practice expedition then saw them conquer stunning (and challenging!) routes. From coastal paths to countryside trails, our students put all their map-reading and teamwork skills into action. Over the course of two weekends the students overcame the heat to complete their final qualifying and assessed expedition. Take a look at these photos captured over the various days which sum up the effort, team work and resilience perfectly! Well done to everyone involved. We are so proud of you! We were absolutely thrilled to welcome so many Year 8 students, parents and carers to College for the Introduction to their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The atmosphere was buzzing as we shared all the vital information about what it takes to achieve the Bronze D of E! #ivybridgeDofE #ivybridgeBronzeDofE #DukeOfEdinburgh #OutdoorEducationivybridge #StudentAchievement #FleteEstate #ErmeEstuary #Teamwork #SchoolExpedition #swcoastpath #brixtontor #bovisanddevon

We have proudly celebrated the completion of our EAL Mentoring Programme! Over the last term and a half, five dedicated Sixth Form students volunteered their time to support our English as an Additional Language (EAL) and refugee students, helping them develop their language skills and build confidence in navigating school life. From breaking down language barriers and tackling GCSE texts to understanding social expectations, these mentors have helped their peers feel truly connected to our school community. This programme has been a showcase of student leadership, compassion, and inclusion in action. The impact was felt by everyone. While our EAL students gained vital academic and social support, our mentors developed communication, leadership, and intercultural skills. Every session was filled with meaningful learning, growing friendships and plenty of laughter! Unfortunately, school trips meant not everyone could be there for the photo, but we want to give a massive shout-out and thank you to all of our pairings. We are incredibly grateful to our Sixth Form volunteers for their commitment and enthusiasm. You have made such a positive difference! We can't wait to continue and grow the programme next year. #EALMentoringivybridge #InclusionMatters #MakingADifference #InspirationalStudents #peermentoring
Four of our students have excelled in their chosen sports. In the equestrian world, Evie recently competed at the prestigious Royal Bath & West Show and achieved an incredible result. Evie placed 3rd overall in her class, making her the highest-placed child in the entire competition! Huge congratulations to Zac (Year 10), who competed in the London ABA International Belt Tournament! For the third consecutive year, Zac has won his weight and age category! Zac, your hard work, dedication, and talent continue to pay off. Finally, Lacey and Gracie travelled to the Royal Welsh Showground to compete in a prestigious Power Up Cheerleading Competition. Their team, 'Glitch', (a Senior Level 4.2 team with Chaos Cheerleading) has been going from strength to strength this season and all their hard work, and late-night training sessions have officially paid off! After taking 1st place and achieving a completely flawless routine with zero deductions) just the week before, the girls did it again, not only did they secure 1st place and Hit Zero back-to-back, but they also won the ultimate prize: A Bid to the World Championship Series in Florida, USA, for April 2027! Just a few weeks ago, Lacey's drama teacher asked her to write down three things she wanted to achieve in the next four years. Lacey wrote: "I would love to win a bid to go and compete at the World Championships in America for Cheerleading." Now that big dream is officially a reality! Well done to all four of you on your achievements! #EquestrianSuccess #RoyalBathAndWest #HorseRidingivybridge #RisingStarivybridge #ShowJumping #EquestrianLife #LondonABA #boxingivybridge #WorldsBid #ChaosCheerleading #HitZero #DreamBig
