Our History and Politics students recently headed to the Historical Association Plymouth Branch for an eye-opening guest lecture that felt more like a spy thriller than a standard classroom session! Spies and British Prime Ministers Students were privileged to hear from Professor Richard Aldrich of the University of Warwick, who delivered a fascinating deep dive into the evolving relationship between the UK's leaders and the secret service. This experience was a fantastic opportunity for our Politics students to broaden their grasp of British governance and for our Historians to widen their contextual knowledge. Beyond the subject matter, attending a lecture by a leading academic provides our students with a real taste of Higher Education, preparing them for what the study of History or Politics looks like at a university level. Coastguards Beach in Mothecombe became a sea of protest as part of a massive nationwide "paddle out" demanding cleaner, safer waters for everyone. This powerful event was organised in collaboration with Surfers Against Sewage and local environmental action group WATER "Wild About The Erme River". The River Erme travels directly through Ivybridge and ends at the mouth of Mothercombe, currently holding one of the poorest water quality levels in the country. A huge shoutout to two of our own incredible Ivybridge CC students who took to the water to make a difference: Ella Poate (Yr 7) Ozzy Godfrey (Yr 9) We are incredibly proud of Ella and Ozzy for their brilliant community work and dedication to protecting our local environment. They are stepping up, raising their voices, and fighting for a cleaner, healthier future for our rivers and seas. #IvybridgeCC #CommunityHeroes #surfersagainstsewage #SaveOurRivers #CleanWaterNow #Mothecombe #RiverEme #ProudSchool #StudentAction
