A National Manufacturing Week Presentation by
our School Employer Partners

As part of our College National Manufacturing Week events, our School Employer partner Plessey came into school to deliver a Careers Assembly to our Year 9 year group. 

This was followed by an Employer Encounter and Question and Answer session with a group of Year 10 students, in which they got to hear first hand from a current Plessey Higher National Certificate Apprentice and a Graduate about their pathways into Engineering. 

Students looked at some of the MicroLED wafers that Plessey use in their manufacturing processes, learnt about working in a Fab (specialised factory), and tested some prototype glasses.  

When asked about what advice they would give to their former selves in Year 10, the Plessey team stated...

“Be more aware of what’s out there and what skills you will need” 

and

“When searching for apprenticeships,
it’s really important to widen your choices and have a Plan B.”
