Building for the Future
The New Year and Spring Term at Ivybridge Community College started with a Careers Assembly for our Year 11 students on Career Opportunities in Construction and the Built Environment by Morven Maclean from Building Plymouth (pictured).
Morven gave students an overview of future employment opportunities and current demand in the construction sector in Plymouth, highlighting key local employers and training providers who are offering jobs and apprenticeship opportunities in current building projects in the Plymouth area such as the Sherford estate and the expansion of Derriford Hospital.
Following the assembly, Morven delivered a Workshop and Question and Answer session to an interested group of year 10 students, giving them advice and guidance on how to apply for apprenticeships, the importance of getting the best grades they can as they work towards their Maths and English GCSEs, and the vital role that work experience and attending events such as Careers Fairs can play in helping with their transition options when they are in Year 11.
