The College was delighted to welcome Dorian from the UK Space Agency to present a workshop to students.

Following an informative visit last year, we were delighted to welcome Dorian back, where he gave Sixth Form students an insight into Space Travel, with a focus on astronaut safety, as well as an introduction to Astronomy.

Students were given an introduction to the topic of space, as well as an opportunity to participate in practical tasks relating to real life space scenarios as well as create their own basic Galilean telescope.

The session covered some interesting questions, including:

How far away is space?

--------

For their own health and safety, an astronaut needs to be weighed regularly to monitor their health – if conventional scales require gravity for them to operate accurately, how can you do this in space where there is none?

--------

What colour are the furthest Galaxies?

As part of the session, students had the chance to participate in practical tasks relating to real life space scenarios as well as create their own basic Galilean telescope

This session follows an informative session from last year, which amongst other things saw students being given the chance to make their own compressed air rockets (projectiles) with some amazing results.

It also covered possible job roles in the Space Industry, the basic principles of fuelling a rocket, Velocity and Physics.

We would like to thank Dorian for visiting and hope we will be able to invite him back again soon to learn more fascinating facts about space.
