Sixth Form and Bobsleighs, Diversity Sports and National Team Call Up

The past fortnight has seen a bumper variety of activities completed by our budding sports stars, including some amazing visits to and by some professional sports practitioners, as well as one of our former pupils signing a contract with a major football team in the National League.

Please note: if you are viewing this page on a mobile phone, you may need to view in Landscape in order to view all of the content.

We start off on the green, which saw Harry (pictured Top, Middle) and his Under 14 team take on a Ryder Cup style Golf competition.

The fact that their opponents were unbeaten last season made no difference, as his Cornwall team took the win and the honours.

--------

Meanwhile, on the football pitch, we would like to say a massive congratulations to former student Ella Sara, who has just signed a professional contract with the Plymouth Argyle women’s team, currently in the FA Women’s National League.

--------

Meanwhile, after a close call at their previous meeting in Barnstaple, our Girls in STEM team finally managed to bag a bronze finish at their latest Greenpower Electric Vehicle racing event finishing the day in third out of 25 competitors.

The team are currently, eagerly waiting to find out if they have done enough to qualify for the International Finals for a third year running.

--------

We would also like to thank our Year 7 and 8 Netball players who took part in a Summer Friendly Netball tournament featuring Colleges across the Westcountry Schools Trust.

Well done for braving the heat and we hope you all had a great competition.

--------

During Sixth Form Futures week, we were also delighted to be joined by former student Josh Hudson (pictured, bottom), who is currently part of the Team GB Bobsleigh team.

Mr Hudson spoke with Sixth Formers about his experience in the sport and how he became involved, as well as operating costs and the year in the life of an athlete in his discipline, as well as giving some students a chance to have a go at boarding a bobsleigh.

--------

We would also like to thank students for racing in a very colourful spectacle as part of the Colour Run during Diversity Week and raising awareness of Diversity and Equality.

--------

Diversity week also gave students a chance to try out some disability sports including...

Archery

Bowls

Goalball

...and we thank them for giving them a go.

--------

We would also like to give a warm congratulations to our Elite Dance Company who put their best foot forward (and not two left ones either we hasten to add) taking a very impressive sixth place at the Dance National Finals.

--------

Meanwhile, our Girls Rugby team were also dancing on the Rugby pitch, taking part at Sandy Park (home of Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club) in the Women’s Premiership Final interval show.

As well as watching a fascinating final between the Women’s Bristol and Gloucester-Hartpury teams, they also got to meet an Olympian, Harlequins and England Player Ellie Kildunne.

--------

Finally, we would also like to thank Tim, Talia and their team at Plymouth Argyle Community Trust who greeted members of our Year 7s at Home Park and presented to them an informative Careers session on Apprenticeships.

--------

Another busy couple of weeks for our student’s sporting activities and we cannot wait to hear more about student successes soon.
