Former Ivybridge student, Emily Hall, receives a prestigious award in A Level Chemistry.
Last summer around 6,500 students sat the A2 Salters Chemistry exams, completing two years’ worth of hard work. Over the two years, students sat four large exams and completed an Individual Investigation. Five students managed to achieve top marks.
Emily Hall was one of those who achieved top marks which was an outstanding achievement.
Emily, who is going to study Chemistry at Bath University next year, made the trip to London to attend the Salters’ Institute Annual Awards Ceremony with her proud parents and Chemistry teacher.
Emily’s intellect, enthusiasm, work ethic and attention to detail were unrivalled. This enabled her to prepare for the summer exams and answer questions which examiners could not fault. Her revision notes were works of art in their own right.
Mr O’Hara, Emily’s Chemistry teacher said: "I was pleased as punch for Emily to receive this award and it’s so deserved. I’ve had the pleasure of teaching Emily through her GCSE year’s and A Level and to achieve this is terrific.
’It was a lovely ceremony, with a keynote address by Dr Annette Doherty, Senior Vice President Product Development and Supply at GlaxoSmithKline. She reminded us of the importance of the role schools play in preparing children for the science and technology industries and of her experiences in the field of drug development; from the early years of small molecules to current day gene therapy."
How pertinent it is that Emily is going to study chemistry at University to follow her dreams of becomming a research chemist and maybe part of a team that produce a drug of the future.
