Amazing Under 15’s Triple Academy Sporting Achievements
On Friday, 25 September, the Ivybridge Community College U15 Boys’ Football Team had the opportunity to make it a College ‘U15 Triple’ in the National Cup Finals this year.
With the Rugby Team qualifying for their final prior to lockdown, and the U15 Girls’ Football Team qualifying after lockdown, it was now the U15 Boys’ opportunity to qualify.
The Team played host to Redborne Upper School, who had travelled from Bedford for the semi-final. The game was held at the Devon FA Headquarters, Newton Abbot, with a 4.30pm kick-off. It was a tight match with neither team risking a loss to try to win the game. Ivybridge had a fair few chances throughout the game, but none to really test the keeper in the Redborne goal.
At full-time the scores were 0-0, so the game went straight to penalties. Ivybridge won 3-2 on penalties, taking them through to the final!

Mr Leonard and Mr Wynn described the game as “a proper semi-final, with neither Team wanting to take too many risks to have a good go at the game. Our penalties were outstanding, and have got us through to the final.”
The Team will play Wade Deacon High School, Widnes, in the final. The Girls’ U15 Team will play Walkden High School, Manchester, in the final. Both games will take place on the same day at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Newport, on Tuesday, 13 October 2020.
“This was a fantastic result for our U15 Boys’ Football team, following the previous College sporting successes prior to lockdown, and in the current difficult, uncertain times. They demonstrated real grit and perseverance in a tightly contested match and thoroughly deserved the victory. We are excited to support them in the Final!” Kelly Olive, Deputy Principal.
