Mental Health Awareness Week
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Jason Ryder, Head teacher from Dame Hannah Rogers’ Special School in Ivybridge, delivered a week of assemblies across the 7-11 Year Groups.
Dame Hannah’s in a 3 -19 Special School for severely disabled children and young adults. The assemblies were designed to encourage students at Ivybridge Community College to reflect on their own lives and their expectations in terms of their future. The message was based around being grateful and understanding the important things in life. It was also about supporting others and helping those who are less fortunate.
The assemblies were well-received by students and staff and mark the beginning of a stronger partnership between Dame Hannah’s and the College. Jason Ryder commented, “It was inspiring to see so many young people engaging compassionately with the emotive topic of disability and also reflecting on their own lives and how to take control of their mental health. Dame Hannah’s is an inspiring place and a reminder to us all that caring for others represents the deepest form of happiness.”
