Caleb Makes History
Caleb Roberts makes history by becoming the first student to make their first team debut while still at the College.
Caleb was a 58th minute substitute for Plymouth Argyle FC in their third and final group game in the Papa John’s Trophy against Arsenal Under 21 at Home Park last week.
Caleb played for more than half an hour against some of Arsenal's top young players and gave a good account of himself as the tie ended in a 1-1 draw, with Argyle then winning a penalty shoot-out 5-4.
The Ivybridge Community College student has already accepted the offer of a professional contract with the League One club when he turns 17 next October.
Caleb added his thoughts about the game, “I am very proud to have made my first appearance for Plymouth Argyle. The game was a really high tempo and I felt a little nervous just before coming on, but once I was on it felt natural, and I forgot all about my nerves and eased my way into the game and felt confident to show what I can do. The penalties were a great experience to win, and I nearly had a chance to take one as I was the next player if we had missed what turned out to be our winning penalty.”
