The Key Stage 3 session, aimed at Years 7 and 8, gave parents and carers further information on Sparx and also introduced a whole range of activities to support students at home in fun and engaging ways.  There were many ideas suggested, for example, using a pack of cards, rolling dice and puzzles such as Kenkens.  The Key Stage 3 Padlet was also demonstrated, please follow this link to access - padlet.com/ks3iccmaths.

One parent said, “Tonight has given me lots of ideas to go home with; it has been a really useful evening.”

The Key Stage 4 session gave details on what students should be doing to ensure they reach their full potential in Mathematics.   This included such information as: which calculators are best and why, details about the final exams, revision guides and flashcards to support students with their revision.

Laura Davies, Director of Mathematics, said, “As a Department we are very proud of our home learning systems, and this was fully explained during the evening.  Current and former students shared with parents and carers the strategies that they had used to ensure they did the best they could with their Mathematics.  These students did a fantastic job and are an asset to the College.”

There were many positive comments at the end of the evening with one parent saying, “ I do find Mathematics very tricky, but I am going to use that to encourage my daughter to show me how she has completed work, rather than just say I am rubbish at Mathematics.”  Another added, “The students that spoke showed so much enthusiasm and you could tell they were passionate and proud of their successes, a great evening thank you.”
