...as well as the usual staples of...

Netball

Football

Rugby

--------

The College would like to congratulate Year 10 student Alex (pictured) on his momentous achievements in Marshall Arts.

He took a ‘terrible kick’ but this did not deter him from taking first place in the Kumite event at the HDKI Karate Open Championships tournament, making him an Under 15 National Karate Champion.

And if that wasn’t enough, he also achieved a very respectable fourth place finish in the Kata Competition.

--------

We would also like to congratulate Year 11 student Alice (pictured), who also took the fight to her opponents, this time in the Boxing ring.

Alice had a great competition to win the Western Counties Junior Title and also took the Silver Medal at the England Boxing National Development Championship.

--------

Following their previous achievements, we would also like to say a very ‘well done’ to our Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Team, who qualified for their third consecutive International Final in the Greenpower Electric Car Racing Series.

The group travelled to historic Goodwood to compete, and despite a race stoppage and events beyond their control hampering their second race, the girls still managed to achieve a top 20 spot for their car class and finish in the top half of the table in their first competition.

Our female students were also out in force on the Netball Courts and we would like to acknowledge and thank our Year 8 Netball Team for representing the College in their match against a team from a Torbay Grammar School.

In addition, our Senior Netball Team took on a team based at a College in Cornwall and were victorious, winning by a score of 35 points to 17.

--------

On the football field, we would like to acknowledge and thank the Year 8 Elite Squad (some members pictured) for representing the College in their match against a partner school from our governing education Trust, as well as to the Teams in Year 7, 8 and 9 who were put together and participated in the Tournament at the Football Festival at the Devon Football Association.

--------

We would also like to thank all those who attended the TenTors and Duke of Edinburgh Information Evening recently (pictured) and we wish them the very best of luck with their training and in their pursuance of the award.

And of course, turning to Rugby, we would also like to thank our Rugby Ambassadors for their participation with the MegaFest Rugby event.

Over 200 primary school students visited Ivybridge Community College to take part and we would like to acknowledge our Ambassadors who helped with leading and coaching the sessions.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank our Year 9 Elite Rugby Squad for representing the College following their recent match against a squad from an Independent School based in Somerset.

We would also like to say ‘a very many congratulations’ to six of our female students who are now Rugby referees!

And finally, we were delighted that our Senior Elite Rugby Squad were invited to participate in the John Fisher School Invitational State School Rugby Festival for 2024.

The team competed in sometimes rainy conditions and came through to take 7th position out of 12 teams.

Many congratulations to the team on their efforts.

A bumper report to finish off this half term and we’re sure there’ll be more successes to report in the run up to Christmas.
