Students achieve amazing results in Swimming Championships
Ivybridge Community College students recently competed in the Devon County Swimming Championships held at the Plymouth Life Centre.
The 14 students who took part were, Gemma Bennett and Christopher Thomas, in Year 7, Rosie Cuming, Jasmine D’Cunha, Megan Harris, Sophia King, Madison Oman, Thomas Jones and Hadyn Stone, in Year 8, Millie Tout, in Year 9, Katie Cutler and Lloyd Stone, in Year 10, and Ella D’Cunha and Cole Haigh , in Year 11. Of the 14 students who competed, 6 made it through to the County finals.
Jasmine D’Cunha, was in the final of every one of her 13 events; achieving 2 age group county records, with 33.98 in the 50m Breaststroke and 1.14.36 in the 100m Breaststroke, currently ranking her in First Place in Great Britain, a fantastic achievement. Jasmine also achieved the Junior Champion trophy in the 15 year and under category for the 50m Breaststroke. In all, she finished with 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
In the 16 year age group Ella D’Cunha claimed 3 medals; 1 Gold and 2 Silver, in the 50, 100 and 200m Breaststroke events. In the 17 year and over age group Cole Haigh brought home 2 Silver medals in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events. Other finalists included Gemma Bennett, Katie Cutler and Lloyd Stone.
Swimming Coach, Nathaniel Rookes said, “I can’t wait to see what these swimmers can achieve this season as we train towards the Regional Championships in May”.
