Year 10 Pierre Michelin competes in The Flanders Judo Cup ‘The Place to be for Champions’
Last weekend, 28 and 29 October 2017, Year 10 Ivybridge Community College student Pierre Michelin travelled with the England Squad to Belgium to participate in the Flanders Judo Cup 2017 Competition. The Flanders Judo Cup is known as ‘The Place to be for Champions’.
This prestigious event is held in the Lommel Sovereign Arena in Flanders, Belgium and this International Tournament is presented by Ethias and the Flemish Judo Federation.
Eight hundred U15, U18 and U21 Judoka participants, representing more than twenty nationalities, including Russia, Japan, the USA, Israel, Holland, France and England compete.
Pierre, only weighing at 66.9kg, was the lightest in a group of twenty-four, competing in the U15’s Open Weight Over 66kgs. Pierre won his first fight, narrowly lost his second, came back in his third only to be beaten in the contest for the semi-finals.
A very well deserved 5th Place in this amazing International Tournament.
Next weekend Pierre will be competing at the Welsh Open in Newport, his first UK Ranking event in the Cadet Category (U18’s). Previously Pierre finished 3rd on the UK ranking as a Pre-Cadet (U15’s).
Ivybridge Community College, and Pierre’s family, are very proud of his determination and results, both in Judo and in maintaining and improving his school grades.
