Assessment and Marking

Years 7 - 9
| Teachers should: | Engage in comparative judgement (National Mentoring Mission) twice a year (except Year 8) - analysing data to support student progression and inform planning. |
| Give class feedback on set tasks (minimum - 3 per Standard of Learning). | |
| Give students enough time to act on and improve work based on class feedback. | |
| Teach students how to give effective peer and self-assessment. |

| Students should: | Act on class feedback - improving work in purple pen. |
| Check classwork for key spellings regularly. | |
| Give effective self and peer assessment that can be used to improve work. | |
| Parents should: | Support students with reading through work, proofreading and checking spelling, punctuation and grammar. |
| Discuss with students how they have or could improve their work. |

Years 10 - 11
| Teachers should: | Engage in standardisation and moderation activities to support consistent and accurate marking. |
| Give class feedback on set tasks (minimum - 3 per Standard of Learning). | |
| Give students enough time to act on and improve work based on class feedback. | |
| Teach students how to give effective peer and self-assessment. | |
| Students should: | Use assessment feedback to make improvements to assessments. |
| Act on class feedback - improving work in purple pen. | |
| Check classwork for key spellings regularly. | |
| Give effective self and peer assessment that can be used to improve work. | |
| Parents should: | Support students with reading through work, proofreading and checking spelling, punctuation and grammar. |
| Discuss with students how they have or could improve their work. |

Years 12 - 13
| Teachers should: | Mark one practice question per half term- in accordance with Academic Opportunities and mark scheme. |
| Give regular class feedback on classwork. (Twice a term minimum). | |
| Give students time to reflect on feedback and make improvements to work. | |
| Give regular verbal feedback on class discussions and classwork. | |
| NEA: give question based feedback on two full drafts. | |
| Students should: | Use teacher feedback to develop and improve work regularly |
| Continue to add to classwork independently- based on teacher written and verbal feedback in lessons. | |
| Non Examination Assessment: use feedback to redraft full NEA twice. | |
| Parents should: | Discuss assessment feedback with students to consolidate the student’s understanding of how to improve. |
