New Personal Best Time in England Athletics Championships
Over the weekend of Saturday, 22 and Sunday, 23 February, Ivybridge Community College Year 8 student, Adam Dingley, attended the England Athletics U20, U17 and U15 Championships in Sheffield.
He competed in the U15 Boys’ Heats where he achieved a new 60m Hurdles Personal Best time.
Adam was the youngest in his age group. There were 18 competitors and 16 of them were all ‘year twos’ (second year in the age group). He was one of only two boys competing who were in their first year of the age group, with Adam currently only 12 years old.
He did amazingly well in the competition, which had a qualifying standard that had to be met to allow entry. Adam didn’t expect to win any medals, but instead he went for the experience, and with the hope of gaining a new PB time, which he achieved. He ran a new PB of 9.63 seconds, beating his last record of 9.82 seconds which he did in January, in Cardiff. Adam was in the 1st heat (of 3) and was up against the top 4 athletes in the UK rankings. Unfortunately he narrowly missed being ranked by 0.03 seconds!
The competition was also broadcast live, and Adam said he felt like a professional when his name was listed on the TV and read out by the commentator, who also mentioned that he had travelled a long way from Plymouth!
Adam will now be focusing on qualifying for English Schools. We wish him the very best of luck.
