Jake Qualifies for the Horse of the Year Show

Over the weekend of Saturday, 22 to Sunday, 23 June, Ivybridge Community College Year 10 student, Jake Myers, competed at the Pony Premier Show at Bicton Arena.

Jake and Macuta II, his young 7 year old pony, won the Newcomer Horse of the Year Show qualifier, jumping a treble clear and being the fastest by 3 seconds in the jump off.  They have therefore qualified to jump in the final at the Horse of the Year Show 2019 which will take place in October at Birmingham’s NEC.

The Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round took place on Saturday during the Pony Premier and it was Jake who took the victory over sixty-two other starters.

Fifteen year-old Jake used every short cut on offer with Joanna Myers’ 7 year-old German bred gelding Macuta II, to come home 2.22 seconds faster than his closest rival, crossing the finish line in 34.20 seconds.

As well as securing his place at the Horse of the Year Show, the top eight took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships, which will take place in August at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre (NAEC), Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
