Wear your Ribbon with Pride
Every year, during the month of June, the LGBT+ community celebrates in a number of different ways.
At Ivybridge Community College Pride Ribbons are currently available to purchase, with all donations for the ribbons, and for the bake sale, going to the charity Stonewall. This charity was set up in the late1980s in reaction to the Government’s ‘Section 28’ legislation which banned any discussion of LGBT+ issues in schools, including in PSHE/Citizenship.
Since then, Stonewall has gone on to campaign for LGBT+ rights, predominantly on the basis of improved education in both educational institutions and work places. Their ‘School Report’ is free to read online; it gives educators a picture of the national situation regarding the experience of LGBT+ students. Stonewall also provide their ‘Champion Schools’ with free role model visits from pioneering people who just happen to be LGB or T. RAF veteran Caroline Paige was our role model when she visited the College in December 2017 as part of the ‘Impact Day’ initiative.
